Sri Lanka vs India

Sri Lanka vs India A 43-run win to start a new era under the leadership of Sky and Gambhir. The Lankan top order put some pressure on the Indian bowlers but they staged a strong comeback in the second half of the innings. Hasaranga was economical and Pathirana took four wickets but the hosts were very sloppy in fielding. Can they perform better and level the series? Stay tuned for the second T20I tomorrow, same time and venue. Till then, goodbye and good night…

Sri Lanka vs India Suryakumar Yadav Man of the Match: He played some excellent cricket from the first ball. He was keeping up the pace, credit goes to him. We know how the wicket plays at night. We were lucky there was no dew. The way we played in the World Cup reminded us that the match is still far from over. (Do you want to keep the left-right combination?) We will choose what works for the team.

Charith Asalanka:

We were not good in the powerplay but in the last over we came back quite strongly. For a while we thought they might get to 240, we did well. A little disappointed with the middle-order batting, we could have done better. (On his team’s balance) This is an experiment, we should proceed like this in the future.

Shubhman Gill:

Sri Lanka vs India Not really (nervous). We talked about good communication and we knew we needed just one wicket (when Sri Lanka were at 140/1). He (Jaiswal) is great to bat with and we complement each other. Our style is different, our plan is simple – assess the conditions and then take on the bowlers. When you start the innings, see how the pitch behaves and play accordingly (that’s the plan).

22:43 local time, 17:13 GMT, 22:43 IST:

Sri Lanka vs India India take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series with a big win. This was created by their top four batsmen, who took them to a total of 213. The world champions were firm favourites at the halfway stage but Sri Lanka’s batsmen struggled. Chasing a big total, Nissanka started quickly but Mendis caught them off guard after the powerplay as Sri Lanka’s openers scored around 10 RPO. Arshdeep broke the opening 84-run partnership by dismissing Mendis with a knuckleball in the ninth over. Nissanka made a half-century and hit boundaries continuously. He added another half-century partnership with Perera and Sri Lanka needed 74 runs from the last six overs with nine wickets remaining. Akshar then broke the back of the host team with a double-wicket haul. Sri Lanka could not recover from this and lost many wickets (losing their last nine wickets for 30 runs).
